Comment:

 Per discussion in today's [multisite ticket
 scrub](https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C03BVB47S/p1509383352000072),
 the network object should be passed to the `pre_get_main_site_id` filter
 instead of just the ID. This was previously discussed already, but
 somewhat overlooked.

 It's a late fix, but simple enough to change it before RC.
