 Thanks @joemcgill! I figured as much. :) I've been using variations of the
 patched technique for years at a theme/plugin level to tighten upload
 handling and avoid passing nasty objects through certain overly-privileged
 server libraries and browser plugins. While I didn't include them in the
 patch (tried to stick within the scope of the original work), there are
 some other ways to try and determine true MIME types that might be worth
 including as fallbacks for the < 5.3 crowd. As I'm sure you've discovered
 none of the methods are perfect, but they may be better than nothing.
