 @boonebgorge I've been giving this thought again in light of #39960. The
 best parameter under the current  setup is supports trackbacks as this is
 used to determine whether pingbacks should be enabled.

 If I get #39960 through, that would change to the union of supports
 pingbacks and supports trackbacks.

 Switching to supports, and supporting the new pingback improvements made
 so far(supporting $post as well as $post_id, allowing an array of pinged
 to go in, allowing $content to be retrieved from $post as well as passed
 in...) we should be able to get some performance improvements, if not all.
