 I like your idea but fear that it won't gain any traction and also perhaps
 isn't as straightforward as it first seems.

 If you take the principles of individual data privacy, all collected data
 needs to have a stated purpose. If the assertion is that the data are
 collected as you say to 'plan and improve future updates' why is there a
 need to know how many users and blogs are running? I cannot think of any
 justification for collecting this data.
