 I had been experiencing HTTP 500 errors using the uploader, although the
 DB entry was correctly created and the file was correctly uploaded. Using
 the diff patch certainly stops the error from occurring, but the
 thumbnails aren't generated. Neither when uploading nor when using the
 [https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/ Regenerate
 Thumbnails] plugin, which has always worked in the past. WP 4.6 in PHP 7
 on Linux.
