 I think we can probably get consensus on the border-left approach, and we
 should also incorporate the border-consistency changes in
 [attachment:29158.borders.1.diff].

 We also need a solution for the back and close buttons - can we make a
 one-sided border feel right there? Maybe a border all the way around?
 They're a different case since it's one button at a time instead of a list
 of them. And they're also auto-focused, so the style can't be distracting.
 Maybe something like gray on focus and blue on hover could help, for
 whatever the visual marker ends up being?
