 Hey @tayjes16 - I think this is a great idea!

 We're hoping to make plugin searching and installing nicer in WordPress
 4.2 as part of #29820 and I'd love to include this, but I think we need
 some help from the WordPress.org API team to add support for sorting on
 the plugin information API which the search page uses.

 @dd32 might be able to help with this, as based on the API docs at
 https://dd32.id.au/projects/wordpressorg-plugin-information-api-docs/
 there is no support for a sort parameter!
