 I'm not totally clear on your wording here, but we did put in the filter
 you seem to be referencing. The filter went in in [17951] and is now
 [https://core.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/4.1/src/wp-admin/includes
 /nav-menu.php#L791 nicely documented and everything]. The plugin is old,
 but you can see how to use it by looking at [https://wordpress.org/plugins
 /cpt-archives-in-nav-menus/ Custom Post Type Archives in Nav Menus]. I
 suppose I should try to carve out a little time to update that, at least
 until we put this in core.
