 The plugin was just an example, doesn't matter what plugin I try to
 update.

 Will check with hosting provider once more as it seems they are able to
 update plugins from their place. They said they did manage to update some,
 then reset my login credentials. Worked once, then failed.

 credentials you are supplying to the FTP form are for your particular site
 alone. Sub-domain sites sometimes have issues when FTP update is initiated
 from the parent domain's FTP credentials..
