 @jdgrimes, Agreed. For the most part I don't care how long the process
 takes, my fear is that there isn't a process at all.

 If you consider the practice: "if it aint broke dont fix it"

 '''For Hosts:''' I don't blame them. Nothing is broken, things are still
 working, so why change anything?

 '''For WordPress:''' Developing on unsupported software? Now that is
 broken. Nobody is saying the fix has to be a sweeping breaking change, but
 why can't we come up with a creative solution?

 WordPress changing it's requirements is the only thing that will
 necessitate the change needed for hosts. We can sympathize with hosts all
 day long, but we're really just coddling them, and enabling their
 lethargicness.

 I understand our responsibility to users, but WordPress can not be held
 accountable for the shortcomings of hosts who refuse to update. There is
 every right, reason, and explanation to tell users that they can't update
 to the latest WordPress because in all honestly their hosting provider is
 years behind technological evolution. Wake up people.

 Desiring to be all things to all people is the shortest road to
 stagnation.
