 [attachment:29820.diff] is a first pass at just adding updates to the
 "update now" link plugin list. It's just a simple example, because I'd
 like to think about some more difficult problems before we get too worried
 about implementation.

 For this chunk, can we show progress in a nice way? It's probably well
 outside of the scope of this feature to implement serious estimations on
 progress, but it may be nice to show progress through the 4 steps of
 updates (downloading, unpacking, installing, removing old version). Can
 this be shown reliably? Does it provide useful information?

 How do we handle failure? Show a message? Are there errors we can handle
 in a nicer manner?

 Something to sleep on. I'll tackle this some more tomorrow. :-)
