 As has been noted, the install/update progress screen is

 shot-2014-07-21-at-12-49-59-pm/ pretty ugly], we can do better.

 There's a [https://github.com/pento/shiny-updates proof of concept plugin]
 for this idea, but the feature doesn't lend itself to being written as a
 plugin. This ticket is for tracking development.
