Comment:

 When I add the editor with wp_editor() to the front-end, everything works
 fine.
 There's a toggle inside the link dialog "Or link to existing content".

 What theme are you using? The height of the dialog is fixed, so if your
 input boxes are too big, the toggle may be hidden...

 We should probably add admin styles for that.
