Comment:

 Some good ideas here, but these patches don't work as advertised.

 {{{\[.*+\]}}} simply breaks shortcode detection.

 {{{\[.+\]}}} prevents matches on {{{[]}}} but still matches {{{[ ... < ...
 []}}} and {{{[] ... > ... ]}}}
