 Replying to [comment:33 miqrogroove]: Yeah, the patch uses a greedy ++ and
 according to Perl it's way more efficient. In the examples I tried it
 stopped segfaulting. I'll be able to tell more after I run this patch on
 WordPress.com. I'd also like to hear some opinion regarding reusing all or
 part of get_shortcode_regex().
