 I wouldn't worry much about the fact that these are technically different
 pieces of software, because that's a necessary constraint of the medium.
 What matters is the users' perspective.

 The mobile apps are probably used by many, many more people than any of
 the other "tools" we have on this page, and at the end of the day adding a
 link to them informs more users about them and allows them to discover
 this alternate way to use WordPress.

 Average users don't look at readme files, developers do. The mobile apps
 are user-oriented, not developer-oriented, so we should link to them in
 the UI. The APIs that the apps use should be documented in the readme
 file.

 The single link to WordPress.org is the most elegant solution, otherwise
 we're including links to pages that we don't control and that could
 change; I think that's when the "too external" concern could become more
 valid.
