It definitely wasn't a light decision to split the conversation. However,
even within your comment, there are a few aspects, all valuable but quite
different in terms of what they touch on. There are concerns about what
this would lock core into in terms of a typeface (assuming that it would
be a typeface, which may or may not be true, as obvious as it may seem to
many), notes about connections between words and iconography, observations
of common practices elswhere, and a proposal for an alternate style of
icon you'd like to see. The first is, to me, a detail that certainly needs
to be considered but we're not there yet. The rest would be great on the
Make UI post, because they are about what I cheaply called "the icons
themselves" :) Certainly P2 discussion should be brought back here in
 summary as well.

Really, Trac just doesn't work well for this kind of multifaceted
discussion or for design decisions (or many design-types), and I'm hoping
the focused P2 discussion will help keep things from stalling out, because
I get a sense of that happening already. It gets said fairly often, right?
"Trac is for hammering out the implementation" or some such. Honestly, I
don't think we're really at implementation right now. There's a new sprite
in trunk for trying on, and that's about it. Let's get focused in and
figure out what does and doesn't work for a visual language with icons,
and then go from there with the rest. That's not to say that what's been
presented so far will just be ignored in that side of the process - I just
think some focus would be good. We've got a good bit more to worry about
than just the admin menu icons, after all, and it needs to be a cohesive
experience around all parts of the admin.
