 Based on the feedback on this ticket, your opinion seems to be shared with
 quite a lot of people actually, including myself. There's some good points
 here that shouldn't be overlooked.

 Certainly the icons look great when it's just the core set, but this
 change is heavily biased against self-hosted WP with thousands of
 different plugins installed (that don't auto-upgrade with core upgrades
 btw) where the plugin is often out of the user's control (or their
 technical and artistic expertise to manually update themselves). On
 WP.com, happytables, and others, the plugin stack is under full control
 where these icons can be quickly and easily updated to reflect the new
 style.

 You are right, we are married to this style, and it's going to be an ugly
 divorce if this is pushed in 3.6, with WP.org users caught in the middle
 left with a bad experience.
