Comment:

 When a *child theme author* changes the title text to an img, the *child
 theme author* should also change the CSS to go with that. You can't expect
 the theme to remain unaffected by random changes to its templates!

 In a quick test, replacing the text with an image tag, while leaving the
 h1 element with the `.site-title` class intact, the image was adopted in
 the fixed navbar just fine, BTW.

 I'd consider this child theme territory, also we are in beta so it is too
 late for new features anyway.
