 specifically-test-mattwiebes tested a new user] with iris-picker-16.diff​.
 This is easily the fasted and least confusing approach I've seen so far.

 My only concern now is that the default swatch colors are a bit garish.  I
 can live with them, since they appear to do the job, but would it be
 possible to desaturated the defaults by 20%?
