 10sexyapples: The issue isn't that you're using custom roles and/or
 capabilities - of course you should be using them!

 The issue is when you're not using roles, but altering capabilities on a
 per-user basis. Firstly, it's a bad idea. Secondly, the fact that you have
 this possibility leads to poor performance, due to the necessary
 implementation.

 That's what all this is about.
