 I will answer Denis' question later.

 I have found another case when this update is useful - do not
 create/update post if custom validation done in `wp_insert_post_data`
 fails - no matter if editing is done via QuickEdit or normal editor. Now
 the only way is to hook the `query` filter and replace SQL with some
 invalid one.
