 Also, given your description of the release cycle, then there's nothing
 saying it can't be done earlier than 4.0 like 3.2 or 3.3 for instance, so
 it wouldn't "rot" for long, especially if a few other people hop in and
 offer their thoughts and critique of proposed patches.
