 @chrisbliss18 I am in no way suggesting that our hacky fix is the way to
 go at all. I was merely pointing out that's what we had to do to get it
 working at the time. I'm all for fixing this problem in core once and for
 all, so kudos for taking the initiative and pushing the issue to the
 forefront here.
