 Maybe I'm missing what you guys are trying to accomplish here, but why
 doesn't the patch just pass start-1 as `offset` and count as `numberposts`
 to `get_posts()` and `get_children()`?  I'm uploading a patch to show what
 I mean (although I didn't really test it).
