Comment(by nacin):

 >I like the idea of standardization and portability, but intentionally
 limiting flexibility is just not the WordPress way.
 The whole point of this feature is standardization and portability.
 Really, the initial idea was just a Codex page -- the taxonomy and UI is a
 whole other matter.

 >If that's the route we take, then we need to cover more scenarios. A lot
 more scenarios. And, this pool needs to be decided upon by a much larger
 set of people than the developers viewing this ticket.

 I said earlier:
 > Not that we shouldn't solicit (especially from theme shops) over the
 next weeks or so exactly what formats we should have in core ...

 I'll talk with Adii of WooThemes specifically about this when I see him at
 WordCamp NL tomorrow. FWIW though, I think we used Woo's list of formats
 to generate ours. I'm all for a brainstorm on wpdevel and having theme
 developers and companies provide feedback. I'm not interested in rejecting
 formats, but the list should also be refined to the point where we can
 expect and encourage developers to offer an experience for all of them, if
 they're going to offer any of them.
