Comment:

 One advantage to Otto's option is that it would only use cache'd data from
 the options table.  No extra DB access if I'm reading things correctly.

 My primary concern in all of this is to achieve more independence from
 hard coded URL's.   Either solution is just fine w/ our environment, and
 we'll be happy with *a* solution, vs the present state.
