 It seems to me that the function provided in the core to type correct has
 the potential to cause problems of a greater magnitude than those that it
 fixes.

 Although the usage of Wordpress may irk the coders who work on WordPress
 it does seem that the code introduced to resolve this has broken a great
 deal of links on websites that have worked fine with WordPress version
 prior to 3.0.

 So, I would propose thought on the following:

 1/ Patch it quickly to get it working in a way that only replaces what
 should be replaced.
 2/ Revert it from core until it can be made to work effectively as above.
 3/ Add an easily accessible way for users to turn this feature off either
 as a plugin or an option in settings.
