Comment:

 "works for me", 2 reasons:

 In testing Version 2.8.4, I could not reproduce the behavior of "HTML
 width/height's based on the theme's GLOBAL width value" using the Full
 size option.  WordPress happily inserted width="1680" height="1050" from
 the Media Gallery tab.

 Viper's idea would duplicate the "Large" size feature.  The Large size
 option already creates a "thumbnail" based on the theme's width.
