 This ticket will likely get fixed in 2.9 indirectly, when we address
 permalink history. In the meanwhile, punting it back to Future pending
 patch.

 Personally, I'd be +1 to adding several meta tables (comment_meta,
 link_meta, term_meta), and abstract the meta functions if needs be to fix
 the issues in user_meta. A unique meta table that includes the user_meta
 is a no go due to WPMU considerations. And combining the rest is a no go,
 imo, for performance reasons (the index is too large).
