Comment:

 I agree with both rtz and VoxPelli that this fix create more problem than
 it solves. The concept with a "blocking timer" is good, but this solution
 is flawed. Ideally pings should be sent instantly  when a new post is
 published. After that the timer can be started.

 Instant announcement to other services is critical for the emerging real
 time web.
