Comment(by ryan):

 "Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated" and
 "Redefining already defined constructor for class wpdb" are due to php4
 compatibility.  We have to live with those.

 2.7.1 should hide strict warnings unless WP_DEBUG is defined. Do you have
 that defined?
