 I got this feedback from a non-techie user, and I agree:

 When you have a draft (post or page), you're confronted with a drop-down
 box that offers the following choices: "published," "pending review," and
 "unpublished" (see attached screenshot).

 So what are you supposed to do?  Do you have to select "published" to
 publish your post?  What happens if you select "unpublished" but click the
 "publish" button?

 My patch removes the drop-down box for drafts and just prints the post
 status as "unpublished": if your post is unpublished, then you are going
 to hit the "publish" button to publish anyways, not use the drop-down box.
