 I'm not sure I follow... Switching to paragraph will change the styling to
 a paragraph, isn't that why you're switching?

 In HTML line breaks and spaces are not preserved except in the <pre> tag.
 Switching from preformatted to paragraph replaces the <pre> tags with <p>
 tags and the text is formatted accordingly.
