 Actually, I think the original post is suggesting some sort of extra
 config tab that every widget has, which defines where it appears.

 So alongside the normal config button on each widget, another button
 appears. You click it, and get a "Display On" sort of menu. Then you can
 choose to not have this widget display on, for example, category archive
 pages. Or single post pages. Or search result pages. Or Page pages. Or
 whatever, the ability to choose by type of page is the important bit here,
 not to have every page have it's own drag/drop stuff. That would be extra
 confusing, IMO.
