 I mean the 3rd party widgets are active in the plugin panel, but do not
 show on the Sidebar Widgets drag and drop panel in wp-admin and don't show
 up on the blog itself.

 As far as widgets in the core, I had to go in and delte the widgets plugin
 before the core widgets took over. Obviously, this is not the best
 scenario when we go gold.
