 Ummm.. No.

 register_sidebar_widget() does indeed have an extra argument, but it's an
 optional one. You don't have to specify a class or an id. Most widget
 plugins don't specify either.

 Widgets should not have to be updated. That's not why your widgets aren't
 working.
