Comment:

 +1 for this enhancement as well.
 Especially with the ip, rdns and whois additions mentioned by _ck_.

 I've seen blogs get flooded by bogus user registrations. Effectively being
 a kind of DOS. Having some kind of protection against this in core seems
 valid.
