 This feature would be very useful, so +1 to it.
 I don't know how possible would be at this point because the Meta team is
 working already on the transition to the new design for the rosetta sites.
 But I'm leaving my comment here to express interest for this feature to be
 available in the new design.
 As you can see here: https://es.wordpress.org/ the current theme doesn't
 allow much to do as it shows the content of the pages: Download, Showcase
 and Installation by default.

 But we have a lot of new posts here which would be interesting to show in
 the homepage: https://es.wordpress.org/news/
