[wp-hackers] Updates for plugins in multi-site

I spent some time searching on Google and WordPress.org today but didn't
find anything.

Can someone point me to a tutorial or other content on how to update a
plugin in a multi-site install where it's not running on the main site,
thus no "Update" notification or link is present.

I saw something a few weeks ago, but didn't keep the link.
