[wp-hackers] Plugin developer "toolbox"

Serious question: Why on earth would anyone want to write plugins inside
WordPress? Or even in a browser for that matter?

WordPress is a publishing platform, why try to make it into an IDE? It
doesn't make a lot of sense.

Now, writing an add-on to one or more of the common (PHP) IDE's that
specifically provided WordPress boilerplate plugin projects (and maybe for
widgets and themes), and that perhaps knew enough of WordPress' inner
workings to run your code in a controlled, debuggable WordPress environment,
and especially knew about all the various APIs and hooks and filters and
data structures so it could be a real aid to developing plugins quickly.

Now that might be a good idea.
