Let's say I have a 5 top level item category implementation and say one of
the tip levels and all it's children needs to use a 3 col layout. And they
happen to be 15 in number (there are 15 sub cats in total that need to use
that particular 3 col layout )

Why isn't there a category layout dropdown like the pages interface do
whereby you can select the layout template you want to use when creating a
category? What is the wisdom
behind  treating pages differenly in this regard and leaving the cats
layout handling to be done at code level?
