Also, watching Chip's video on theme development (submitting to
wordpress.org), having comments as no-questions-asked REQUIRED element
would seem to imply that edit_posts is a REQUIRED capability for themes.

And finally, looking through wp-admin/includes/menu.php and
the custom_menu_order filters, removing posts and comments from the admin
menu doesn't appear to be encouraged.

Over all, it seems my approach is not very 'WordPress'. I will re-visit
this later.
