Firstly, next time you have a fix, a better way to submit it for inclusion
is by going directly to trac <http://core.trac.wordpress.org/> and opening a
ticket. I don't think this particular change would make it in though,
because it depends on several other things to be useful.

Secondly, you can use the 'redirect_canonical' filter to achieve the same
effect, without having to modify Core.
