I hear you. But I think it highly unlikely that a college intern over a summer project could generate the results that the experienced team (lead by Joel Spolsky of Joel on Software) who has been working on this for 2 years and now has $6 million in VC can produce.
Besides, Barry is doing "WP as bug tracker" not "WP as an answers exchange." Bugs are but a small subset of things people need answers for.

Have you seen the traffic StackOverflow has gotten? 7.1 million unique people per month per Quantcast . I don't know of any open source community using an SO clone that has even come within an order of magnitude, do you?
Since their stated corporate goal is "Make the Internet a better place to get expert answers to your questions" and they've proven they can get really high traffic (StackOverflow is #709 on Quantcast) then it would seem it would really help WordPress if more people could find the answers they need more quickly and easily. And since they pay for the hosting and the data is Creative Commons and can be exported then it seems there's more downside to waiting then there is to moving forward?
