There's a lot of possibilities. Why did twitter add geo data to
tweets? Lots of ways to use it.

Off the top of my head:
- Searching for posts made from a specific area (there's engines to do
this now for sites that put GeoRSS tags in their feeds).
- Displaying maps on the posts
- Displaying posts ON a map. I've seen a WordPress theme that does
this, the main page is a Google map and the pins on it are the posts.
Think TravelBlogging.

There's a dozen plugins in the repo to store geo data with posts. Not
one of them uses the same format as any other, unfortunately. I'm not
sure we need a core API, necessarily, but that's probably the simplest
way to make the meta data all match up in the plugins. Geolocation or
something like it needs to be a core plugin, IMO.
