I disagree, in parts.

Cloning means that the user will get the same wp-config.php as the
original one, and I wasn't sure if I needed to edit the file or just
use some hooks to modify instance variables. For me, the wp_options
values were absolute.

Now it's obvious you don't need to know about git.
