Pascal,

I'll through out my own plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simply-exclude/ 
  which does basically what you are attempting to do but via the  
plugin architecture. In short the plugin allows for hiding categories  
from the front page, RSS, Search and Archive. This same logic applied  
to tags and authors. One thing not currently supported is control over  
the wp-list-categories output.
