Yes, fine, but what if the WP community argued about it for a while
and then decided that he was full of crap instead? Just because he's
influential doesn't make him correct.

However, as has already been stated, this sort of thing is a Google
Summer of Code project that was already in the works. It's even said
in the comments on Jeff's own page.
