Not to get off-topic, but it makes you wonder, why would they  
deprecate such a seemingly awesome function, without offering any  
apparent means of a replacement?

Command line equivalent is `php -l filename.php`... wonder how  
inelegant it would be to implement a replacement? (Probably very :P).
